We’re in full 2019 swing now and homeowners are talking about their kitchen projects, timelines and next steps when they visit Clarke, New England’s Official Sub-Zero/Wolf/Cove Showroom and Test Kitchen. The conversation often turns to what is the next trend or “How do I design my kitchen to work for a decade or more?”
The editors at Real Simple, have identified trends, starting with paint colors, for 2019. They have offered up both white paint colors and “gorgeous non-white” colors for 2019 kitchens. Since our Clarke Kitchen Design Contests are always filled with extraordinary white kitchens and most who read our blog are intimately familiar with the difference between Ben Moore’s White Dove and Sherwin-Williams’ Antique White, let’s go right to the non-white kitchen colors that Real Simple says are currently “on trend.”
- Woodlawn Blue by Benjamin Moore
This color is part of the Historic Color collection. A collection of 191 time-honored hues comprises our most popular palette. It is timeless and can be used in traditional, as well as contemporary spaces.
- Golden Straw by Benjamin Moore
Rich but not overly saturated, this versatile golden yellow mirrors the beauty of a summertime field.
- Smoked Trout by Farrow & Ball
This warm mushroom tone is brimming with rich pigments that create great depth. It is complex, romantic color that is both neutral and feels almost like a dusty red in well-lit rooms.
- Wasabi by C2
Looking for a fresh look for your kitchen? This crisp green lands on the yellow side of the green spectrum and works in a wide array of kitchen styles.
While Real Simple writers offer up the list above as glorious shades for your kitchen, some of the trend-watchers at Houzz and Trulia say that 2019 will be a year when kitchens turn to “Moody Hues.” They predict that dark colors are making a big comeback in 2019. Navy palettes are trending, especially with gold hardware and fixtures. Black and forest greens are trending as wall colors.
Perhaps surprising to New Englanders, there is also a trend toward Blush, a rich pink neutral tone, for cabinets. Colors like “Setting Plaster,” by Farrow & Ball are being used by some designers to give a Parisian-inspired look to kitchens.
Trending: Customizing Appliances
It was once thought that the “look” of your kitchen hinged almost entirely on your cabinets. Their color, style and placement communicated your personal kitchen style. In 2019, that has all changed. Your “kitchen style” has as much to do with your lifestyle – and what you do in your kitchen – as it does the colors and materials you select to surround that life.
Are you a family that cooks together? Do you envision a breakfast bar with a dedicated Wolf Coffee System and Warming Drawer for morning muffins? Is it important to have your cooktop positioned so you can face family or company sitting at your island? Will the kids have their own refrigerator drawers in the mudroom, so they don’t need to trek through the kitchen to grab drinks? Does wine play a key role in your culinary life, so that temperature- and humidity-controlled wine storage alongside your refrigerator and freezer would be ideal?
Today, Sub-Zero and Wolf are uniquely positioned to offer not only world-class performance when it comes to food preservation and preparation, but also the widest array of appliance sizes, styles and configurations to allow you to create a kitchen that reflects your personal lifestyle. Your appliances speak volumes about who you are and what you value.
Food Preservation
You can choose from Sub-Zero built-in refrigeration, integrated refrigeration or the iconic PRO 48, an 800-pound monument to food preservation. Are you imagining a classic stainless steel look for your kitchen? You can now find it with handles and detailing that coordinate with your contemporary, transitional or traditional kitchen design. Would you rather your appliances disappear? Sub-Zero pioneered that concept and offers more than 30 sizes and configurations in integrated refrigeration plus panel-ready built-in models that will match your cabinets.
The modularity of Sub-Zero’s line allows you to custom design the amount of refrigeration, freezer space and wine storage that makes sense for your lifestyle. Living in a small space, but want to make a big impact? Consider an 18” Sub-Zero wine storage unit between a 24” refrigerator and 24” freezer? Need more refrigerator space? No problem, the 27” or 30” unit works just as well in your line-up.
Food Preparation
