Triple Crown Cocktails

Kentucky Derby

Mint Julep

Ingredients:
4-6 mint leaves
Mint on springs for garnish
½ ounce simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water brought to boil and cooled)
2 ½ ounces good quality bourbon
Crushed Ice as needed

Directions:
Place bourbon, mint and simple syrup in a glass first. Add halfway with crushed ice and stir. I don’t mile to muddle like most recipes as this can bring out bitter notes from the mint. Stir mixture until glass is chilled and frosty. Top with more crushed ice. Place straw and garnish with mint. When adding the garnish I slap the mint in my hand which brings out that aroma and place next to straw so each sip you really pick up that mint flavor.
