The Wolf Convection Steam Oven: What’s So Special?
Many manufacturers advertise steam ovens, but for homeowners who investigate these claims, it is clear that all “steam ovens” are not created equal. Clarke’s showroom staff is asked regularly about what makes the Wolf Convection Steam Oven different, so we thought it would be helpful to share some of our answers here.
According to Sandra Lashway, an educator and home economist-turned-Clarke Showroom Manager, the Wolf Convection Steam Oven is the most versatile appliance you will ever own. In this one oven, you can cook with steam, cook with dry heat or combine both for extraordinary results. If you have a small space, this could be your only oven (the only thing it does not offer is a broil element). In a larger space, this oven is the perfect complement to your wall oven(s) and is styled so that it will look perfect in a stack or side-by-side.
As with all Wolf products, the hallmark of the Wolf Convection Steam Oven is control. This includes not only the control that you gain when cooking on these fine appliances, but also the engineering that produces ovens that do exactly what you want them to do. Combined, this precise control means every meal turns out as you intend.
The Wolf Convection Steam Oven allows you to harness steam to provide a simple and effective way of preparing an endless array of foods in a more healthful way. In fact, this cooking technology allows you to preserve up to 22% more vitamins.
The key to the versatility of steam cooking is being able to hold steam at temperatures above and below the boiling point of water, so foods like fish get the gentler environment they require. Critical to the efficiency and effectiveness of using steam is the ability of the oven to monitor its environment throughout the cooking process. With Wolf, two sensors continually provide feedback, working with the software and venting system to make adjustments “on the fly” to maintain the optimum cooking environment.
The first sensor, the humidity sensor, provides continual feedback on the humidity level inside the oven, allowing for the production of steam only when needed. This efficiently saves water and maintains precise humidity.
The second sensor, a thermocouple temperature sensor, provides constant monitoring of the oven cavity’s temperature, providing signals to activate or deactivate the main heating element in order ot maintain a stable cooking environment.
These two monitoring devices, paired with a dynamically controlled vent that allows the oven to release or retain moisture throughout the cooking process, provides the Wolf owner with a unique environment to prepare not only vegetables, but also a myriad of other foods including breads, pastries, pastas, roasts and more.
In addition, the internal water boiler system produces steam within 60 seconds and is monitored by electrical connectivity to minimize excess steam and unnecessary ventiing. Any water that remains after cooking is pumped back into the water tank to be boiled and converted to pure and naturally safe steam at a later time. What’s more, Wolf’s water storage allows one-touch access to the water reservoir without interrupting the cooking process. This is huge when it comes to convenience.
And, unlike other manufacturers who have one or two models from which to choose, Wolf offers six models, to allow you to integrate this Convection Steam Oven into virtually any size and style kitchen you may have. With models in 24″ and 30″ widths and styling that includes transitional, traditional and contemporary, this is one appliance you will want to seriously consider when remodeling or building a new kitchen.
And the results? Juicy, golden roast turkey. Vibrant steamed asparagus. Bubbly, crisp-crusted casseroles. A dozen eggs hard boiled in the container. Complex “multi-pot” dishes created automatically in one oven dish (the reduced clean-up is magical in itself). Steam, roast, bake, slow cook – the possibilities are almost unlimited.
