Sub-Zero, Wolf & Cove Kitchen Design Winner: Jodi Geran’s Award-winning Traditional Kitchen

How do you make a very open kitchen blend with the architecture of the home while making it attention-grabbing at the same time? Jodi Geran of Christopher Peacock Home did exactly that and recently won Best Traditional Kitchen in New England in Sub-Zero, Wolf & Cove’s prestigious national Kitchen Design Contest.

The client entertains frequently, with two or three large dinner parties each month. This new kitchen needed to provide a comfortable traffic flow and ease of function for these events. An oversized 13’ x 4’ island incorporates seating, a prep area, two undercounter Sub-Zero refrigerators, on oversized sink and two dishwashers. This key focal point allows guests to interact with each other, serve themselves and help with food preparation if needed.

The homeowner had seen sliding spice doors behind a range at a friend’s home and made this a priority in the new design. Though the engineering provided a particular challenge, in the end, the recessed spice cabinetry behind sliding doors was achieved!

The kitchen is in full view off the main entry foyer and adjacent to a great room, so Jodi created a focal point on the main kitchen wall. The 60” Wolf Range and stunning custom 84”metal hood are a show-stopper for all who enter and move around the home. This grand feature, along with a unique combination of finishes, prevents this from being “just another white kitchen.” Her first step was mixing in walnut details through the space with drawer fronts, over-sized butcher block, butler trays and accent pieces. Polished nickel hardware came next and is used as jewelry in this kitchen design. Over-sized drawer pulls with exposed screws, hammered strapping detail on the gleaming metal hood and corner brackets on the butcher block add the finishing touches.

A butler’s pantry located right off the kitchen incorporates the same door style, hardware and walnut accents, but with a dramatic dark blue high glass paint.

A total of ten Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances helped the homeowner achieve the function he desired for his frequent dinner parties. Two Sub-Zero Column Refrigerators extended with cabinetry take advantage of the almost ten-foot ceilings. Two Wolf Convection Steam Ovens and a Microwave Drawer allow for specialty cooking for one person or a large group.

This kitchen surely impressed the judges not only for its design detail, but also because the homeowner required it to be complete within six months. The kitchen is traditional and stately and reflects a life well lived.

Leonardo Da Vinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” and Jodi Geran created a singular suburban sophisticate in this project. Congratulations on being a winner of Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove’s contest for Best Traditional Kitchen in New England.
