7 Tide, Boston’s newest design destination, was opened in 2016 by Clarke as not only the company’s third Sub-Zero & Wolf Showroom and Test Kitchen in New England, but also the location of the first Marvin Windows and Doors Experience Center in the U.S. and home to Reflex Lighting, a regional thought leader in lighting for commercial and residential design.

Expertise is being heralded as the number one asset of all partners in the building. To share that expertise with the design community, 7 Tide recently kicked off a year-long series of free continuing education units (CEUs) for architects and designers. The informative sessions can help design professionals stay on top of trends and technology in their fields.

Known as “Learn & Lounge,” the monthly events aim to elevate the forum and format in which topics required for continued certification by various architectural and design organizations are taught. Each 60- to 90-minute class will be followed by an interesting networking opportunity that may include a beverage tasting, cooking class or other entertaining activity in one of the many spaces inside the inspiring design resource.

The first Learn & Lounge on January 11th attracted more than two dozen area architects for an hour-long class in the second-floor classroom of Reflex Lighting. The CEU event shared the essentials of LED Color. The participants gained a better understanding of the technology of LEDs, including component construction, features and failure modes. A focus of the presentation was a discussion of fixture design for sustainable performance, an important, but hard-to-achieve task for architectural projects using LEDs. By close of the session, architects were commenting that this was the best CEU event they had ever attended and they had learned so much valuable information. They commented how they now had a far better understanding of what the right solution is for their architectural lighting application.

Following the educational session, the “Lounge” portion of the program featured a beer tasting with acclaimed local brewer Trillium and a sampling of unique and delicious Super Bowl-inspired appetizers and snacks created by 7 Tide Chef Brittany Wezner.

Future Learn & Lounge events are planned by Marvin Windows and Doors on February 8th on Fenestration in Contemporary Residential Application and by Sub-Zero & Wolf on March 8th on Specifying for Custom Luxury Kitchens: Appliances, Options & Accessories.
