This Roomscapes Cabinetry & Design Center project by senior designer Julie Lyons involved an update to a dated kitchen in a town house alongside a South Shore golf course. The clients are both high level professionals so Julie wanted to design a space that reflected their tastes and lifestyle. Entertaining at a formal level was a must. The clients family was expanding with grandchildren and they wanted to maximize the square footage of the kitchen to incorporate the now divided areas and create a grander feel to the space. They also wanted to connect the formal living room, dining room and kitchen both visually and aesthetically. They were very selective in their finishes wanting a creative solution to their needs and space, but one that would also be timeless and not too on trend.
The Sub-Zero refrigerator was laid out to act as a “third return wall” with paneling on all sides including the rear so that the cabinetry continued into a cozy breakfast nook with flanking storage, that then continued into the sun room as one consistent run allowing maximum use of wall space.
A distinctive island was created to flow narrowly from the bump out and then flare into the more open space. The island houses a prep sink, Wolf steam oven, and storage. The soft curve of the island offers a perch for perusing cook books or enjoying morning coffee.
A beautiful walnut grain was chosen for the island and a newly created bar and tv center to enhance the formality of the space. Soft white cabinetry and the use of Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances offered timeless beauty while still feeling fresh and new.
Flanking the window tall cabinets with glass and drawer details come fully to the countertop creating more formality within the kitchen.
White Bronze pulls and custom brass faucets add warmth, interest, and drama to the kitchen. Marble mosaic tile runs behind the range and the full length of the window wall for glamour and interest.
The creative use of cabinetry and layout within the remodeling limitations were all combined to provide the clients with the formal space they were looking for from the point of entry through to the beautiful kitchen.
